So when you hear me ask “Are you a Giants fan?” you probably think I am talking about football right? Well, actually I am not. I am talking about the real deal here.
Real. Big. Giants.
Those big, huge, roaring massive monsters that cause the earth to shake everywhere they walk. Giants. You know, those huge giants in your life that cause you to stop in your tracks and either turn in terror, or cower in fear.
Basically what giants do best is inspire fear and trembling in others.
That’s all.
They are not quick, deft, agile…etc.
Giants get put out in front of the army to challenge individuals to a fight. They are huge, and fearsome. They are very intimidating.
But They are Conquerable. Praise God!
David, was not afraid of Goliath, because he had his faith in the One True God. David was living his life, with his eyes fastened on God.
He also was concerned about God and God’s people.
David was a man of prayer, and I can imagine that he was often praying for God’s people. He was concerned about the direction that Israel was headed. He felt concerned about their lack of Faith and Worship of the One True God.
Then when David arrived on the scene of “The Big Challenge” with the giant Goliath, his immediate thought was, “God’s Name is being Defied, and Israel is falling for it.”
His prayers for revival were being answered that day, and God was going to use him to be the channel.
“Am I a dog?” Goliath asked.
Well, little did he know it, because of his giant pride, but he was, in fact, from God’s perspective less than a peanut.
From God’s perspective, David was much more of a giant than Goliath, because David’s faith was in God. Goliath’s faith was only in himself. He was a master of fear and intimidation. But when it came to skill in all areas of life, he was a wimp.
David had slain a lion and bear, perhaps on multiple occasions.
In other words, he cared for the flock. When he saw God’s flock being intimidated by this person, he responded in the same way as with the lion and the bear. He just simply rose up and slew him.
How about you?
Are there giants in your life that are using fear and intimidation to cause you to tremble?
The sad thing is, that not only do they cause us to be fearful of them, but sometimes over time we actually start to admire them ourselves. We actually start to look at them and think, “Wow, they are huge. Awesome. Even beautiful.”
Of course this entirely is not true, but because of giving in to the spirit of fear, we lose touch with reality.
So, how are you going to deal with the giants in your life?
The next time you are facing one of these blaspheming, proud, vulgar giants in your life, turn the battle over to the Lord. He will absolutely destroy the giant and restore the fear and worship to its rightful place- The LORD GOD.
Whether you are a Giants fan, meaning the earthly football team or not, there is one thing you are going to have to answer to God about. And that is…
How did you deal with the Giants in your life?
